Speech by Salaheddine Najah on occasion of the protest songcontest at the theatre Rabenhof, February 12th 2013:
Tonight we are singing for our friends Amin and Mohammad. Last time they were singing with us, but tonight they are in prison. And why?
Because it is the purpose of the government to make criminals out of all of us refugees. They don’t allow us to work. When we are in Grundversorgung, they give us forty euro per month. But how much are forty euros?
Actually, who are the real criminals? Those who steal our hope and who kill our dreams.
Since November 2012 we are in this struggle and now. To tell you the truth we have come to a very difficult point. We are desperate. And now we need you!
Not only your opinion and your arguments, we need your physical presence at the demonstration on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Westbahnhof.
We need a strong sign to show the Austrian government, that the Austrian people here is on our side.
And, please: Don’t believe that this demonstration or that our struggle is the plan of any organization using us.
We ourselves, the refugees, make the demonstration, and we are the ones who want it. It is our fight. We thank everybody for their help, but we don’t allow anybody to use us. This is a self-organized struggle of and by refugees, one that needs your support, your presence on the street on Saturday.
Politics will never change just by itself, but your voices can bring change.
Salaheddine Najah hat sich nach dem Auftritt der refugees of the refugee camp vienna beim Protestsongcontest 2013 am 12.2.2013 in einer kurzen Rede an die Öffentlichkeit gewandt:
Heute Nacht singen wir für unsere Freunde Amin und Mohammad. Die haben das letzte Mal mit uns gesungen, aber heute sind sie nicht da, weil sie im Gefängnis sind. Und warum sind sie dort?
Denn es ist die Strategie der Regierung uns ins Gefängnis zu bringen und uns zu Kriminellen zu machen. Sie erlauben uns nicht zu arbeiten. Sie geben uns vierzig Euro, wenn wir in der Grundversorgung sind. Aber wieviel sind vierzig Euro?
Aber wer sind wirklich die Kriminellen? Das sind diejenigen, die uns unsere Hoffnung stehlen und unsere Träume töten.
Seit November 2012 kämpfen wir diesen Kampf und um euch die Wahrheit zu sagen, jetzt sind wir an einem schwierigen und komplizierten Punkt angelangt. Wir sind verzweifelt. Aber: wir brauchen jetzt euch.
Wir brauchen nicht nur eure Meinung und eure Argumente, aber wir brauchen auch eure Anwesenheit. Eure Anwesenheit auf einer Demonstration am Samstag um 14 Uhr vom Westbahnhof aus.
Wir wollen ein starkes Zeichen an die Regierung Österreichs geben, dass die Leute aus Österreich, die Österreicherinnen und Österreicher, hinter uns stehen.
Und ich bitte euch: Glaubt nicht, dass diese Demonstration oder unser Kampf ein Plan seien, den irgendeine Organisation ausgeheckt hat, die uns benutzt.
Es sind wir, die Geflüchteten, die diese Demonstration machen und diese Demonstration wollen. Es ist unser Kampf. Wir danken allen Menschen, die uns helfen, aber wir erlauben niemandem, uns zu benutzen.
Glaubt nicht, dass die Politik sich jemals von selbst ändert. Die Politik ändert sich durch eure Stimme.
